
Julia Vidal
Graphic and fashion designer, educator, and researcher specializing in Brazilian cultural ethnicities
Julia Vidal is a fashion designer, educator, and researcher of Brazilian cultural ethnicities. She holds a postgraduate degree in History of Africas in Brazil, during which she published the thesis and a book with the same name “The African that exists in us, Brazilians”. She also earned a Master’s degree in Ethnic-Racial Relations and is currently pursuing postgraduate studies in Indigenous School Education, as well as a PhD in Design.
Julia is the founder and manager of “Julia Vidal: Cultural Ethnicities”, a consultancy that fosters brands, fashion, and educational initiatives promoting Brazilian cultural diversity. She has launched 15 fashion collections that narrate Afro and Indigenous stories on runways across Brazil, Colombia, and England.
In addition, she has created over 45 costumes for artists performing on national and international stages and is the published author of four books on Afro and Indigenous Brazilian fashion and design.
Currently, she works as a consultant for fashion companies developing products with Brazilian cultural identity and serves as a lecturer at the Istituto Europeo di Design Brazil (Rio and São Paulo).
Since 2021, she has conceptualized and coordinated the Multicultural School and Consultancy, Ewà Poranga, which trains emerging designers and educators from a decolonial perspective.
Her work has received international recognition, including being named an “Inspiring Business Around the World” by SHELL LiveWIRE, and awards such as Innovative and Creative Business by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (MinC); Women Leaders by INSPIRAR 2022; an Honorable Mention from the Rio de Janeiro City Council for her anti-racist contributions to fashion; and a nomination as “Intangible Heritage” by Pretas Potências, among other accolades.
